Blem – El Jefe Single Edge Razor Head

Sold As IS – Where Is

SE blades are thicker, sharper and more rigid than a double-edge blade and you will need to screw the head down securely or you’ll experience “blade chatter” meaning the blade is not firmly in place and will rattle – we suggest using iKon professionally manufactured handles as they pair the best with our products and have very clean thread tappings that prevent cross threading accustomed with poor quality discounted handles.

By ordering you are agreeing to these terms.

BLADES ARE SHARP, so take great care when changing the blade in your razor – the handling is a bit different for those who are familiar with larger DE blades.

I have only done one shave thus far, so I guess this is more of a first impressions review, but seeing as there are no others up I will share my thoughts.
The head listed at 20 bucks is killer. It is listed as “blem”
I gotta say, I really don’t see any blemishes. The finish is fantastic, I guess the threads do have a couple burrs on them, but it presented almost no issue.
I found once you place in the blade, you really have to make sure the 2 pieces line up perfectly where the male threads are, the round portions need to match. The top cap will be sort of in the pulled back position when the blade is right, otherwise you will get tons of chatter.

I bought the sampler pack iKon recommended and loaded in the “kai titan mild”
The shave is absolutely awesome. Took a moment to adjust to the angle but the audible feedback is soooo cool. You can really shave a nice wide area at a time on your face. One of the more comfortable shaves I have had in a long time! The head looks very cool I might add.
I am tempted to buy another at this price point… Are artist series single edge blades better quality than DE blades? they seem to be. If you already own an iKon handle, for 20 bucks there is no reason not to try this. As always iKon will ship this head out to you immediately, or at least get you a tracking number. These guys don’t mess around. I enjoy buying direct! Thanks iKon, I really like this one.

Been some concerns about the lack of tightness for the head/blade/pins .. but I’m not seeing an issue. I assembled the head and blade to the handle, holding the loose razor horizontally. Tighten up, and the alignment is spot-on. Great shave .. using Feather Pro and Ikon SE handle. Very nice quality.

There is some movement of the blade on the posts, but at least for me, once you screw the handle on blade alignment is fine (and the blade is held in place securely). This razor is extremely efficient but also provides a comfortable, irritation free shave. At $20 this razor is a steel. Even if you have to buy the handle at $45 with the handle it’s still much less than the competition. Razorock’s single edge it cheaper, but it’s never in stock.

Got two shaves from this one so far and I love it. Being my first SE, I can’t telle how it compares to the other ones out here but it certainly delivers nice and easy shaves.
The small pins do not seem to be a problem for me. In fact, with everyone raving about how the blade moved if you unscrew the head, I was hoping to be able to play with blade exposure a little bit, or even to try to slant the blade to see what it does… but the blade does not move that much after all.
I was about to say that if you own an Ikon handle and are curious about SEs, you should probably buy one, but these seem to be out of stock…
I hope that Ikon will make further attempts at creating a SE, as this seems very promising. Solve the small pine problem and make the blade loading completly straightforward (after all, I’m lazy, the razor is good as it is but easier ie better), make a b1 coated ss version and I may well buy it.

For $20 you can’t go wrong with El Jefe. I got mine a few weeks ago and have a half a dozen shaves with it. No nicks, cuts or razor burn. Nice close 2 pass shave with a Feather artist pro blade. The small pins allow you to adjust the blade exposure for aggressiveness. It is not as perfect as a B1 , but it is not bad either. Just a few mold seam marks. I hope they can make it out of stainless in the near future! I will buy one in a heartbeat.

This is the best shaving SE head bar none! I have both Mongoose offerings and El Jefe outshines them. It is more maneuverable and easier to control due to its slim head.. You get great feedback and a very close shave. I have ordered a second head for a travel razor. The price is unbeatable for the quality. Highly recommend!

Recently I was a winner of a giveaway by Chris Bailey on his YouTube channel, The Shave Evangelist (TSE). I felt extremely fortunate to win, but doubly so as I’d never tired a Single Edge Razor before. I went onto Badger and Blade’s forum and asked the gents there for suggestions on blades to get; most of them recommended the Feather Pro Guard Blades, which I then ordered on Amazon. All necessary items finally having arrived at my home, anticipation peaked, I assembled the El Jefe with the Pro Guard blade on a vintage Gillette handle I had, carefully following the advice of Chris and the others on B&B to check blade alignment and placement of the head’s top-plate. It was all in place and I began my shave. The first stroke down my face was smooth as butter! I mean, I had thought that the Edwin Jagger DE89L was super smooth, but this was on a whole other level! The thing that REALLY shocked me, was how big of a swath of my face that one stroke covered! This is the definition of efficiency; it mows down the hair effortlessly, while at the same time, covering at least 50% more area per stroke.

I finished up a 3-pass shave, with perfectly BBS skin, even in my trouble spots like my Adam’s Apple area, the jawline and around my mustache edges. I had no cuts, no weepers, no razor burn; nothing bad. It was just a smooth, BBS, perfect shave. Mind you this was my very first time using an SE and I hadn’t ever experienced the technique or angle before. I was just blown away! So much so that I ordered the SE 90mm Handle in Matte because I want it to match the matte finish of the El Jefe.

I am now totally hooked on SE shaving and want to try some more; not only that, but this being my first iKon shaving product, I am just thrilled with the quality of their range. It’s true that the head was machined with too great a tolerance for post movement, leading to a bit more difficulty loading a blade, or perhaps an uneven or chattering blade (which neither of those things happened to me, requiring just a bit more care and attention). Sure it was a bit difficult to get the blade even and the head aligned properly. Perhaps it even took 30 seconds longer to assemble than one of my DE razors; but that time was more than made up for with the razor’s shaving efficiency. The shave was a breeze and was seriously such a pleasure. I will be buying more iKon products in the near future; this much I can assure you of!
